Understanding Expo 2020

Expo 2020 Dubai is the first World Expo to be held in the Middle East, Africa and South Asia (MEASA), and the first to be hosted by an Arab nation. Expo 2020 Dubai plans to host 25 million visits, with 70 percent of them coming from beyond the nation’s borders – the largest proportion of international visitors in Expo history.

Expo 2020 will run for six months from 1 October 2021 to 31 March 2022. It will be open seven days a week, from 10:00 to 00:00 on weekdays and 10:00 to 02:00 on weekends and special days.

Connecting Minds, Creating the Future

Through the theme ‘Connecting Minds, Creating the Future’, Expo 2020 Dubai provides a platform to foster creativity, innovation and collaboration globally.

The dawn of the 21st century is a unique time to reconfigure, reinvigorate and re-explore our connections, away from traditional approaches to resolving global problems. Connecting Minds, Creating the Future is about forging essential, smart partnerships across three critical priorities – Opportunity, Mobility and Sustainability – to inspire and shape the future of all countries and communities.

Unlocking the potential within individuals and communities to shape the future.

Witness how our lives and actions are interconnected in the Opportunity District. Meet the people worldwide who are transforming dreams and aspirations into the realities of tomorrow, and be empowered to shape the future by unlocking the potential within yourself.

Creating smarter and more productive movement of People, Goods and Ideas

Experience how the Mobility District creates connections to drive the world forward, breaking down the divide between the physical and digital worlds to build a harmonious, global society where information, ideas and goods are exchanged faster than ever before.

Respecting and living in balance with the world.

As you explore the Sustainability District, you’ll see some of the world’s most advanced technology in action, what countries are doing to champion sustainability, and experience how the human race can enjoy living in harmony with nature in a high-tech future.

Thematic Weeks

While much of what you see in our revised theme week structure will be familiar, you will also see a number of weeks that are new. We have retained the themes you told us were most important to you through the Expo Stakeholder Survey, while introducing a number of emerging priorities common to you all. Some themes have been moved from standalone weeks to become cross-cutting issues because we believe that this better reflects the critical role they play across all themes. Our revised program also recognizes and places upfront key stakeholders who are key drivers of change and will be highlighted and engaged across all theme weeks.
